Mrs. Thelma Litton Elam, 94, of Morehead, passed away Wednesday morning, December 23, 2020 at the Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owingsville.

She was born on February 17, 1926 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Boyd C. and Ina Click Litton.

Mrs. Elam was retired from Peoples Bank of Morehead, where she had served as Senior Vice President.  She began working there at the age of 18, starting out as a teller.

She was a member of the First Church of God, having attended both Johnson and Morehead.

Thelma was a graduate of Morehead High School and she sang in the Church Choir and with a Gospel Quartet for many years.

She enjoyed working in her flowers and traveling to the Virgin Islands.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herb Elam, the father of her son, Elwood Bumgardner, two brothers, Luke Litton and Clyde Litton and two sisters, Genoa Skaggs and Bertha Lewis.

Survivors include her son, Steve Bumgardner (Charlotte) of Morehead, step-children, Mary Jo Wirth, Dr. Sandra Elam and Carl Elam, two sisters, Lois Spurlock (Bill) of Morehead and Gerri Dotson (Ray) of Goldsboro, North Carolina, two grandchildren, Andy Bumgardner (Jacci) and Holley Jo Nester (Rob), four great-grandchildren, Kyla Bumgardner, Kenna Bumgardner, Griffin Bumgardner and Brock Nester and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Private family services will be conducted Monday, December 28, 2020 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with her nephew, Dr. Michael Spurlock officiating.

Burial will follow in the Caudill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Andy Bumgardner, Rob Nester, Brock Nester, Dr. Michael Spurlock, Rick Litton and Tommy Sluss.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Litton, Bill Spurlock, Vaughn Fraley and Brett Litton.

Contributions are suggested to the Johnson First Church of God CWC (Christian Women Connection).

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is caring for all arrangements.
