Merle Jones

Merle Jones, 83 of Morehead, passed away Friday, March 26, 2021 in St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead. He was born in Bath County, Kentucky on May 30, 1937 to the late James W. and Sylvia Hamilton Jones.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Janet Glover Jones, three sisters; Carolyn Cooper, Betty Hohenbrink and Katherine Shrout.

Merle was a retired Master hairstylist and had owned and operated Merle and Jan's Hair Studio for many years. He attended Morehead State University and had worked as an Interior Decorator also doing painting and wallpaper. He especially enjoyed working in his flower garden. He attended the Church of God International, Morehead Congregation.

Survivors include two step-sons; Dewayne Gregory of Salt Lick, Kentucky and Rodney (Sonya) Gregory of Morehead, Kentucky.

Three step-grandchildren; Erica Dougherty, Justin (Heather) Gregory and Haley Gregory. Four step-great- grandchildren; Kyler Dougherty, Hudson Dougherty, Ryatt Gregory and Amity Gregory.

Two sisters; Linda (Herb) Hyatt of Morehead and Shelby Jean (E. M.) Russell of Miamisburg, Ohio.

Also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral  Home with Larry Carmichael officiating.  Obituary and  remarks will be by Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. and Kyler Dougherty.

Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is from 6 until 8 pm on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.

Pall Bearers will be Justin Gregory, Elijah Sexton,  Kyler Dougherty, Hudson Dougherty and Abram Sexton.
