Elizabeth Chaney

Elizabeth W. Chaney, 91, of Morehead, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

She was born on November 6, 1929 in Buffalo, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Levi Sparks and Mary Conley Sparks.   She had six brothers and seven sisters.

Elizabeth graduated from Rowan County High School then went to Morehead State for two years.  During that time, she worked at Bruce’s Five and Dime Store and then General Telephone Company.

June 6, 1951 she married Tommy White in Fort Knox, Kentucky at Hill Top Chapel.  He served for three years during the Korean War.  Upon his return, they moved to Cleveland, Ohio.  After a few years, they returned to Morehead where they had two children, Charlene White Goodman and James Anthony White.  They started the store where she worked for 29 years.

On October 26, 1981, she married Roy Chaney in Jellico, Tennessee and remained married until his death in 1993.  After his death, she started a day care in her home.  She kept a total of two grandchildren and ten other children.

Elizabeth enjoyed fishing, traveling, and making quilts for her family and friends.  She was a member of the Haldeman Missionary Church, then the Cranston First Church of God, and lastly the Elliottville Baptist Church.  She taught Sunday school for 25 years.  She was a member of the Sharkey Home Makers Club and the Ladies Birthday Club.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star and treasurer of the Route 377 Fire Department Auxiliary.

Elizabeth loved life, her church, friends and family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James H. “Tommy” White, her second husband, Roy Chaney, her daughter, Charlene Goodman, son-in-law, Larry Goodman, five brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include her son, Anthony White and his wife, Angela, one brother, three sisters, four grandchildren, two granddaughters-in-law, three great-grandchildren, five step-children and seven step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 21, 2021 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Rev. Willie Sturgill and Pastor Andy Lands officiating.

Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Evan White, Rachel White, Josh Parker, Derek Lewis, Donnie Blevins, Andy Lands and Zack Maky.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is caring for all arrangements.
