Donald Ray Smith, 68, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022 at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

He was born on November 28, 1953 in West Liberty, Kentucky, a son of the late William Peter Smith and Mary Katherine Wagoner Smith.

Donald had been a drywall worker and was a United States Army Veteran having served during Vietnam.

He was of the Apostolic faith and enjoyed U.K. Basketball, fishing and gardening.

Donald enjoyed being a grandfather and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Randolph Smith, William Isaac Smith and Walter Smith and two sisters, Ethel Fickes and Delma Mae Stamper.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Trent Smith, one son, Justin Smith of Ashland, Kentucky, one daughter, Angela Renee Keim of Coleman, Michigan, five stepsons, James “Buddy” Bowling, Steven Bowling and Nathan Bowling all of Morehead, Shane Stone of Lexington, Kentucky and Brandon Stone of Ashland, stepdaughters, Brandi Bowling of Louisville, Kentucky and Tiphanie Bowling of Morehead, two sisters, Mary Evelyn Ratliff of Morehead and Lou Vernatter of Olive Hill, Kentucky, several grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 7, 2022 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with his nephew, Brother Brownie Stamper officiating.  Special music will be provided by his nieces and nephews.

Full military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126.

Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
