Ms. Carmie Juda McKenzie, 75, of East Main Street, Morehead, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Life Care Center, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

She was born on September 3, 1944 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Andy T. (“Bug”) McKenzie and Oda Carpenter McKenzie.

Carmie was a Morehead State University Alumni, having graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts.  She worked as a waitress in California, Florida, Ohio, Virginia and Kentucky.  While working at Columbia Steakhouse, she mentored many young adults.

She enjoyed shopping, reading, watching “Looney Tunes” and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Austin Reed, Mitch McKenzie, Bill McKenzie and Ralph McKenzie and one sister, Kathie Fraley.

Carmie’s children were her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  She loved each and every one of them as her own.

Survivors include Tony Adams, who she was very close to and thought of as a son, one brother, John Paul (“Jay”) McKenzie, four sisters, Bonnie McDaniel, Virginia Hall, Louise Hensley and Helen McCall and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Sunday, May 24, 2020 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead.

Burial will follow in the New Alfrey Cemetery.

Visitation is after 10:00 A.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bruce McDaniel, Dale Carpenter, Taylor Barber, Jacob Barber, Carlos Suarez and J. C. Suarez.
