Brother James R. “Jim” Porter, 82, of Muses Mills, Kentucky, passed from death to eternal life on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at his home.

He was born on May 3, 1938 in Fleming County, Kentucky, a son of the late Walter E. and Anna Pearl Muse Porter.

Jim was a retired construction superintendent for Judy Construction, having built numerous houses over the years.

He was a minister having pastored at Lower Rock Lick Freewill Baptist Church and Holly Fork Freewill Baptist Church.

Jim was a member of Providence Freewill Baptist Church and he was a private pilot.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and aviation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Jewell Porter McIntyre, a grandson, Christopher Glenn Thacker, three brothers, Randolph “Jack” Porter, Sam Porter and Lee “Buck” Porter and two sisters, Jewell Cooper and Agnes Kemp.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldene Howell Porter, one daughter, Rhonda Ann Bailey and her husband, Rick of Muses Mills, Kentucky, four grandchildren, Jennifer Ouderkirk (Ryan) of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, Matthew Craft (Bridgette) of Muses Mills, Adam Bailey (Somer) of Wallingford and Justin Bailey of Muses Mills, three great-grandchildren, Aiden Ouderkirk, Aaron Ouderkirk and Mya Bailey, several nieces and nephews and his Providence Freewill Baptist Church family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 24, 2020 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Brother Bobby Day, Brother Gary Sparks and Brother Clyde Holbrook officiating.

Burial will follow in the Muse Family Cemetery in Fleming County.

Visitation is after 5:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Butch Stevens, Jerry Porter, Ryan Ouderkirk, Matthew Craft, Adam Bailey and Mike Hatton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Rayburn, Rick Bailey, Justin Bailey and Aaron Ouderkirk.

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is caring for all arrangements.
