Tyree Milford Mathews, 77 of Denton, North Carolina passed away Friday evening in the Thomasville Medical Center in Thomasville, North Carolina. He was born January 22, 1947, in Sandy Hook, Kentucky to the late Elmer and Pearly Mae O'Neal Mathews.
Tyree was a retired truckdriver and a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the Denton Seventh Day Adventist Church in Denton, North Carolina. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all treasured the time he spent with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Kay Mathews, five brothers and four sisters,
Survivors include one son Joshua Evan Mathews of Denton, three daughters, Jessica Lynn Mathews of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Shanna Mathews Johnson and her husband Kevin of Denton, and Tabitha Jo Calvert of Greenville, South Carolina. One brother Lloyd "Dickie: Mathews of Crestline, Ohio. Two sisters, June Heefner of Crestline, Ohio and Isabelle Hale of Nicholasville, Kentucky. Six grandchildren, Cody Calvert, Chayse Calvert, Reece Johnson, Logan Johnson, Madelynn Johnson and Evan Mathews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Rev. Elijah Sexton officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fraley-Osborne Cemetery in Elliottville with full military rites conducted at the graveside by the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126.
