Thelma Blair

Thelma Jane Brewer Blair, 94, of Morehead passed away Monday, August 8, 2016.

She was born on March 30, 1922 in Morgan County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Jerry Brewer and Myrtle Link Brewer.

Thelma worked in Detroit, Michigan in 1942 during World War II.  She was a riveter at the River Rouge plant, helping to make the B29 Bombers.  She also ran “Thelma’s Home Bakery” on West Main Street in Morehead in the early sixties and seventies.  Thelma loved cooking, canning, gardening, and keeping house.

She was a member of the ChristWay Church of God for 62 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Farley Brewer, Estill Brewer, Ernie Brewer and Mitchell Brewer, four sisters, Opal Blair, Ethel Adkins, Zelpha Gibson and Icey Fields, two sons-in-law, David Pettit, Jr. and Eddie Ashurst, one infant daughter, Elizabeth Blair in 1947 in Crestline, Ohio and her husband of sixty two years, Earl Blair, who passed away on September 10, 2003.

She is survived by two daughters, Fay Ola Pettit of Clearfield, Kentucky and Carol Sue Lafera (Frank) of Palm Coast Florida, one grandson, Donald Pettit (Judy) of Morehead, Kentucky, two granddaughters, Donna Vickers (David) of Newark, Delaware and Whitney Laning (Rick) of Australia, two great-grandsons, Randy Vickers and Jeffrey Vickers of Newark, Delaware and  two-great granddaughters, Saprina Dailey (Eric) of Hillsboro, Kentucky and  Pippa Laning of Australia.  She is also survived by one sister, Evelyn DeVore of Morehead, Kentucky and one brother, Carl Brewer of Morehead, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 13, 2016 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Bishop Greg Guy officiating.

Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Donald Pettit, David Vickers, Eric Dailey, Harold Gene Brewer, Joseph DeVore, and Frank Lafera.
