Roy was a scholar and avid reader who cherished his extensive book collection. He was a dedicated member of the Heart Circle, TAO Group, and Natural Inclusionality, finding deep meaning in connection and shared learning. He also enjoyed playing pool and golf and was a skilled masseur who brought comfort and relaxation to others through his touch.
In 1986, Roy followed a new calling and began his studies in Theology at Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, California. Upon completion, he became a Unitarian Universalist minister, serving congregations in Williamsburg, Virginia; Atlanta, Georgia; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Augusta, Georgia. His ministry was defined by compassion, inclusivity, and a steadfast belief in the power of community.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Lamer; daughter, Tonya Ricks, and son-in-law, David Ricks; grandson, Braden Ricks, and his wife, Bria; and great-grandchildren Beckett, Bonnie, and Brysse Ricks. He is also survived by his cherished sister, Anne Buckner; niece and loving caregiver, Tiffany Buckner Sholar; brother, Joseph Reynolds; nieces Kaitlyn Paschall and Makayla Sachse and their mom Dianna Pettit; and many treasured grandnieces and grandnephews.
