Rosalie Trumbo Thomas was born on December 6th, 1946, in Rowan County, Kentucky, to the late Katherine Mabry Fisher and Earl Fisher and John Paul Trumbo. She was happily married to Jimmie Thomas on December 5th, 1963, one day before she turned 18 as she always proudly mentioned, until the time of his death in 2007. Jimmie and Rosalie had two daughters: Jeanne Ann and David Burton of Morehead, Kentucky, & Jennifer and Mark Burton of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Rosalie and Jimmie took great pride in both of their daughters. Grandma Rose was a name that she loved to be called by. Her grandchildren, Brian & Nikki Burton and Brooke Burton & Jacob Waddell were her pride and joy.
Another name that she went by was Miss Rose, a name her students called her and one that she loved to hear. Rosalie proudly worked within the Rowan County School System for many years as a teacher’s assistant at Morehead Grade School and Rowan County Middle School. As a teacher’s assistant to students with exceptionalities, Rose loved and cared for those students as if they were her own. She still spoke of her students and her co-workers with love in her heart and laughter in her voice. When it was time for her to retire, her family had to persuade her to leave behind the early wake-up calls for subbing and pick up a cup of coffee instead of the phone.
Grandma Rose loved her family more than anyone could ever know. She enjoyed having cups of coffee and conversations in the sitting room or kitchen. Throughout these conversations, you could hear the news playing in the background, as Rose loved to stay up to date on current events. Also, Rosalie enjoyed learning more about her family’s history through genealogy. She was continuously searching for more information and chatting with friends in Facebook groups to connect with others who enjoyed genealogy. When Rose was younger, she enjoyed shopping for several hours at a time, you could say it was her sport. Rose was a natural homemaker who loved to tidy, collect, and make her home feel just right, and she never turned down the ease of a good microwave meal. Rosalie leaves behind many happy memories for her family and loved ones to think back on and hold close to their heart.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary Lee Hamm and Charlotte Black, and one brother, William Earl Fisher.
Rose leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that she loved very much. The Pallbearers for the funeral will be Brian Burton, Jacob Waddell, Phillip Black, Gary Duvall, Steven Thompson, Bill Bradley, Jerry Zeigler, and Jerry Patrick. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rick Thomas, Roger Thomas, and Charles Black.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 9,2026 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Brother Steve Madden and Brother Clifford "Tippy" Price officiating.
Burial will follow in the New Sill Cemetery at Haldeman.
Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday.
Rose and her family are very appreciative of everyone praying and sending their condolences.
