Roger Paul "Butch" Hargis

Roger Paul "Butch" Hargis, 72 of Morehead, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at UK-St. Claire Healthcare in Morehead. He was born December 5, 1953, in Morehead, Kentucky.

Butch was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed, fishing, hunting and trap shooting. He was very proud to have served as the Trap Coach for the 4-H Sharpshooters and the Rowan County Senior High School Trap Shooters.  He was a United States Navy Veteran having served in the construction battalion also known as the "Seabees"

Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family. They were his pride and joy; he treasured every moment spent with them.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Russell Hargis, brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Mary Kaye Hargis, brother Russell Hargis, Jr. and a brother-in-law, Dave Bundy.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Deana Sharp Hargis, one daughter, Lindy (Ed Trent) Hargis of Morehead. Three sisters: Betty (Joe) Perkins and Shirley Bundy all of Morehead and Carolyn (Jimmy) Butler of Washington, Kentucky. Two grandchildren: Michael (Kazara Hopkins) Conley and Emily Conley. Two great-grandchildren: Delilah Conley and Mylie Conley. Also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service is being planned and will be held at a later date. The family will announce the arrangements once they have been finalized.

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is caring for all arrangements for Roger Paul "Butch" Hargis and his family.
