Lawrence Rabin Dowdy

Lawrence Rabin Dowdy, 79, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Elliott Nursing and Rehabilitation in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.

He was born on March 21, 1943 in Mingo County, West Virginia, a son of the late Virgil Franklin Dowdy and Minnie Kiser Dowdy.

Lawrence was a retired bricklayer and a member of the Midland First Church of God.

He was a 1971 graduate of Morehead State University receiving his BS degree and where he was a pitcher on the baseball team under Coach Sonny Allen.  Lawrence started playing little league baseball at an early age, when he had to walk to town to play and then walk back home after the game.  He established a baseball team at Cranston and a 15 year old travel baseball team; he was an assistant coach for the American Legion Baseball Team and a pitching coach; and he had also worked with the youth group at church.

Lawrence was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Dowdy and Donald Dowdy and two sisters, Wanda Dowdy and Betty Dowdy Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Morehouse Dowdy, whom he married on February 4, 1967, one daughter, Kelly Marie Dowdy Littleton and her husband, Anthony of LaGrange, Kentucky, two brothers, Lonnie Dowdy and his wife, Wanda and John Dowdy and his wife, Ruth all of Morehead, four grandchildren, Chandler Littleton, Carrie Littleton, Carly Littleton and Connor Rabin Littleton and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 20, 2023 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Rev. Bush Stevenson, Rev. Don Evans and Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating.

Burial will follow in the Sardis Cemetery at Cranston.

Visitation is after 12:00 Noon Monday at the funeral home.    

Pallbearers will be Lonnie Dowdy, John Dowdy, Chandler Littleton, Carrie Littleton, Carly Littleton, Anthony Littleton and Connor Littleton.

Honorary pallbearers will be all the past members of Lawrence’s youth group at the Cranston Church of God.

Contributions are suggested to one’s favorite Little League Team.
