Karen Sue Hockett Emlet, 58, of Morehead, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born on July 27, 1959 in Madison, Wisconsin, a daughter of Wanda Adkins Marshall and the late Dr. Harry D. Hockett.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Lane Emlet and her sister, Pamela Hockett Schroeter.

Karen graduated from Mt. Mary College in Wisconsin with a degree in communication and journalism.

She enjoyed reading.  Mysteries were one genre that she read frequently.  She also would do jewelry beading for hours and she enjoyed baking and sharing with family and friends.

Karen was an active member of STAR (Saving The Animals of Rowan) – Karen and Rodney loved animals!

Survivors include her mother, Wanda A. Marshall of Morehead, her brother, Harry R. Hockett of Morehead, her step-mother, Barbara Schafer Hockett of Florida, two nephews, Brian and Adam and several other relatives and friends.

Karen met Rodney and fell in love, even though she knew that he had cancer and was dying.  The rest of Rodney’s life, he spent making Karen happy.  Karen spent the rest of Rodney’s life doing all she could for him.  They will be buried together.

Graveside services and burial will be held at a later date.

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is caring for all arrangements.
