Juanita Marlene Lewis Turner

Juanita Marlene Lewis Turner, 91, of Elliottville, Kentucky passed away Tuesday February 28, 2023 at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead, Kentucky. 

She was born January 4, 1932 in Rowan County, Kentucky to the late Curtis E. Lewis and Lucy Lambert Lewis.

On December 23, 1949 she married Claude Turner Jr. and shortly thereafter they moved to Michigan. She worked as an Executive Secretary, Aero Division, Vickers Incorporated, in Troy Michigan and retired when their son Gregory Alan Turner was born December 31, 1962.

The family was transferred to Mexico City where they lived for almost three years. While there, Mrs. Turner helped organize and became first president of the Leamos Book Club. When they returned to Michigan she became active in the Elks Ladies organization and served as treasurer, secretary, and president of the L'Kettes. As the result of a class in genealogy she became interested in the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), was admitted to the Three Flags Chapter and served as treasurer of the chapter for several years before returning to Kentucky in 2002 after an absence of 52 years. 

Mrs. Turner was a member of the Elliottville Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Progressive Homemakers Club, The Rowan County Historical Society, The Kentucky Historical Society, a member of the Eastern Star over fifty years (1967) and was a Kentucky Colonel. 

A marriage of sixty three years ended on June 10, 2013 when her husband Claude passed away. Mrs. Turner is survived by her son Gregory Alan Turner and his wife Monica. They have three children: Brandon Alan and his wife Yesenia, Nicole Elizabeth, and Natalie Joan-Marie Turner. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Iloma Lewis and Virginia Turner,  one aunt, Bessie Lambert and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Eugene, Winford, Clinton, and Alton Lewis.

Following the death of her husband, Kathy Prince became Mrs. Turner's friend and caretaker in her later years. 

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday March 4, 2023 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Pastor Willie Sturgill and Rev. Ron Turner officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Williams-Turner Cemetery at Elliottville.

Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Friday March 3, 2023 at the funeral home.

Casket Bearers will be Dan Turner, Mike Linville, Don Lewis, Brandon Turner, Matthew Lewis, Gill Litton and Walter Hargis.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Eddie White and Clayton Lewis.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Elliottville Baptist Church, MSU Foundation, Breckinridge School Society in support of the Breckinridge Commemorative Scholarship Endowment.
