Jonathan Joe Tackett, 43, of Ashland, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at his home after an extended illness.

He was born on August 17, 1970 in Ashland, Kentucky, a son of Timothy Ray Tackett and Joy Horton Tackett. Joe was a former heavy equipment mechanic and attended Heritage Freewill Baptist Church. He was a 1988 graduate of Boyd County High School, where he excelled in football and baseball. Joe was All State in both football and baseball and he was the Most Valuable Player of the Thoroughbred Bowl in Lexington and was Captain of Defense.

He enjoyed deer hunting and camping.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Timothy Ray Tackett, Jr., his maternal grandfather, James Monroe "Roe" Horton, Jr., paternal grandparents, Glenmore and Vivian Greenhill Tackett and a special uncle, Tony Tackett.

Survivors include his parents, Timothy Ray Tackett and Joy Horton Tackett of Ashland, one son, Timmy Joe Tackett of Grayson, one brother, Christopher Ray Tackett of Ashland, special friend, Kristy Stanley, his maternal grandmother, Ruth Evans Horton of Morehead, two nephews, Cody Tackett and Corey Tackett, one niece, Cayla Tackett and several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Heritage Freewill Baptist Church in Ashland with Brother Ed Cook and Brother Brandon DePriest officiating.

Burial will follow in the McFerren Cemetery in Olive Hill. Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Wednesday and anytime Thursday at the Heritage Freewill Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Todd Borders, Eric Wilburn, Jason Armstrong, Phillip Henderson, Harold Lewis, Doug Johnson, Keith Osborne and Cody Tackett. Honorary pallbearer will be Timmy Joe Tackett.
