Joan Baker

Mrs. Joan Butcher Baker, 80, of Elliottville, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling after suffering an apparent heart attack.

She was born on July 30, 1931 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John Morgan Butcher and Nell Turner Butcher.

Mrs. Baker was a retired teacher's aide for the Rowan County School System and she had worked at Martin's Department Store and The Big Store. She was a member of the Elliottville Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School. Mrs. Baker was a member of The Birthday Club and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-one years, Kenneth Baker, whom she married on June 17, 1950, one son, C. J. Baker and his wife, Kelli of Elliottville, one daughter, Nancy Lane Miller and her husband, Muff of Preston, one sister, Chilma Jones of Morehead, five grandchildren, Evans (Tiffany) Lane, Sarah (Jim) Cash, Carmen (Joshua) Hunt, Jackson Baker and Ben Baker, two great-grandchildren, Colton Cash and Sawyer Cash and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 5, 2011 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Brother Willie Sturgill officiating.

Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery.

Visitation is after 11:00 A.M. Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Tom DeBord, Dale DeBord, Evans Lane, Jackson Baker, Ben Baker, Jim Cash, Joshua Hunt and Jr. Stegall.

Contributions are suggested to the Elliottville Baptist Church.
