Jewell Hale

June 7, 1923 — July 30, 2013

Mrs. Jewell (McBrayer) Hale, 90, of Springfield, Ohio, formerly of Morehead, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Essex of Springfield surrounded by her family.

She was born in Elliott County, Kentucky on June 17, 1923, a daughter of the late William P. and Beatrice Mabry.

Jewell was a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church, NEA, OEA and Morehead Chapter #227 OES. She began her teaching career in a one room school house at New Home School, Kentucky and retired following 32.5 years of teaching from Northeastern Local School District at Northridge Elementary.

In her spare time, Jewell enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, playing SCRABBLE, and spending special time with her family.

Jewell was also known by the neighborhood kids as "Granny".

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Chalmer E. Mabry, brother-in-law Elmer Lewis and one step-son, Bill Hale.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, George Hale, whom she married on July 8, 1972, two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula (Ron) Shook of Springfield, Ohio and Jean Ann (John) Auld of Van Wert, Ohio, one sister Jean L. Lewis of Morehead, Kentucky, one sister-in-law Faye Mabry of Springfield, Ohio, five step- children, Beverly (Terry) Legg of Beaver, Ohio, Brenda McHaffey of Mesa, Arizona, Bonnie (Rick) Ward of Beaver, Ohio, Bryan Hale of Beaver, Ohio and David (Hank) Hipply of Wooster, Ohio, five grandchildren Krista (Damon) Hawke of Springfield, Ohio, Shelli (Mark) McGuire of Rushsylvania, Ohio, Samantha Jo (Kirby) Joseph of Convoy, Ohio, James (Ilisha) Auld and Wesley (Kayla) Auld both of Acworth, Georgia, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, two special nephews, Danny (Joyce) Lewis of Morehead, Kentucky and David (Karen) Dixon of Latham, Ohio and many other nieces and nephews.

Grandmommy 'Mom Mom', as she was known by her grandchildren, loved all children, with a special fondness for all her students.

A gathering of family and friends will be Friday, August 2nd from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME in Springfield. Services to honor Jewell will be Saturday, August 3rd at 10:00 A.M. in the Memorial Home with Pastor Danny Stinger officiating.

Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Saturday at the Tick Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Memorial contributions are requested to the donor's favorite charity in Jewell's memory.
