James Reynolds

Mr. James Richard "Jim" Reynolds, 88, of Morehead, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at his home.

He was born on May 5, 1925 in Morehead, Kentucky, a son of the late James Silas Reynolds and Anna Florence Caudill Reynolds Clay.

Mr. Reynolds was a former chemist for The United States Atomic Energy Commission, a retired science teacher, had owned and operated Jim's Sport Shop in Morehead and was a corporal in the United States Air Force during World War II; serving as Radar Technician in a B-29 Squadron.

He was a graduate of Breckinridge Training School and received his BS and MA degrees from Morehead State University. Jim even furthered his education at Miami University, Ohio and Ohio State University.

Mr. Reynolds was a teacher of sciences in Wisconsin and Ohio Schools, a teacher in the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse and a teacher of radiation detection and safety for Wisconsin Civil Defense.

He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, a charter member of the Morehead Lions Club and he was the State President for the Junior Academy of Science from 1942-1943.

Jim's "greatest accomplishment" in life was enjoying his retirement by grinding and giving away corn meal!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Samuel Reynolds and Paul J. Reynolds.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Patrick Reynolds, whom he married in 1947, one son, James Edward Reynolds of Morehead, three daughters, Mary Reynolds Levee of Elizabethtown, Cindy Peake of Springfield, Ohio and Virginia Hatmaker of Austin, Texas, one brother, William Earl Clay of Morehead, one sister, Mary Margaret "Peggie" Reynolds of Morehead, four granddaughters, five grandsons, eleven great-grandchildren, his special friends and staff of Big 4 Lumber Company and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with David James Levee and Marnie Levee Clagett officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lee Cemetery.

Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126.

Visitation is from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Allen, Chuck Meade, Ray Griffith, Danny Reynolds, Donnie Reynolds and Allen Bradley.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Big 4 Lumber Company and Dr. Cynthia Schneider.
