James Paul "J. P." Cooper

James Paul “J. P.” Cooper, 69, of Olive Hill, Kentucky passed away Sunday, September 27, 2026 at his home.

He was born on May 1, 1957 in Morehead, Kentucky, a son of the late Paul James Cooper and Oddress Blankenship Cooper.

J. P. was a retired diesel mechanic having worked for Averitt Express and was a United States Army Veteran.

He was a member of the Bethel Christian Church and showed racking horses for 30 years. J. P. enjoyed showing cars and car shows and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charlie Cooper and one half-brother, David Spenlau.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn “Libby” Glover Cooper, one daughter, Crissie Wolfe and her husband, Zachary of Morehead, two sisters, Brenda Trent and her husband, Wendall and Jamie Clay all of Olive Hill, one half-sister, Shirley Oney of Olive Hill, two grandchildren, Jedediah James Wolfe and Victoria Von Wolfe, special friends Jeff Brown and Louie Keeton and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 1, 2026 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead.

Burial will follow in the Masters Cemetery with full military honors conducted at the graveside by Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is after 11:00 A.M. Thursday.
