Herbert Whitt

September 11, 1939 — July 19, 2015

Herbert Whitt, 75, of Flemingsburg Road, Morehead, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 at his residence after a brief illness.

He was born on September 11, 1939 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, a son of the late Cecil and Ida Victoria Howard Whitt.

Herbert was a retired ironworker for Local 769 in Ashland for 35 years.

He attended Morehead First Freewill Baptist Church and was a member of the Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654 and a member of the Shriners.

Herb enjoyed farming and working on tractors and cars.  He also liked going to McDonalds every morning to drink coffee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Deloris Black Whitt, who passed away on January 12, 2008.

Survivors include one sister, Juanita (Jimmy) Thacker of Morehead, three brothers, Edson (Janet) Whitt and Bobby Gene Whitt of Morehead and Nelson Whitt of Muncie, Indiana, two nephews, two nieces, four great-nephews, one great-niece and his longtime caregiver, Carol Chapman of Morehead.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Bennington officiating.

Burial will follow in the Johnson Black Family Cemetery at Sharkey.

Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday by the Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654.

Pallbearers will be Timmy Spurlock, Shawn Jones, Jonathon Thacker, Palmer Black, David Black and Jeff Hardin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Fouch, Kenneth Spurlock, Wilbert “Bug” Black, Gus Black and Jimmy Thacker.
