Herbert Harley Hyatt, 84, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away at his daughter’s home, surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.
He was born September 22, 1938 in Sharkey, Kentucky, the son of the late Clayton and Golda (Eldridge) Hyatt.
Herb started driving a semi when he was 15 years old for Epp, Ken and Dick Ellington and was blessed to continue driving until his retirement at the age of 79. During those years, he drove for R.L. Wells, Bill Daily, and Lavern Lincoln and Elvis Middleton at Daniel Boone Lumber, Johnson Brothers, and Diamond Forrest Resources.
Herb attended a one room school at Sharkey. He enjoyed, spending time with his family, gardening, Saturday honey-do’s with Linda, working around the yard, and sitting down with all his family for a good meal. Herb Hyatt never met a stranger; he loved to talk.
He was one of founding elders of Sharkey Baptist Church in 1994, where he had remained a deacon until the time of his death.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Linda (Jones) Hyatt, son, David Harley Hyatt and an infant brother, Marvin Hyatt.
He is survived by his sister, Loretta Hyatt Davis, daughter, Jill (Harley) Sexton, grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Kiser, Taylor (Misty) Hyatt, Elijah (Nikki) Sexton and Elizabeth (Luke) Gillie, great-grandchildren, Abram and Gabby Sexton, and baby Ruby Hyatt due in February 2023, special nephews, Rick and Roger Davis and Herb would want to mention his long time friend, Dick Ellington.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the Sharkey Baptist Church with Pastor Elijah Sexton and Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in the Caudill Cemetery at Sharkey.
Visitation at the Sharkey Baptist Church is from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Roger Davis, Rick Davis, Abram Sexton, Taylor Hyatt, Sumner McCarty, Tom McCarty and Oakley Cooper.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and close friends from Sharkey Baptist Church, Forrest Cooper, Jack Lewis, Mike Sublett, Jacob Plank, J.T. Caudill, David Johnson, Tom Lewis, and longtime friends, Bob Lewis and Woody Curtis.
