Geneva Whittle

September 15, 1922 — March 20, 2021

Cranston

Mrs. Geneva Brown Whittle was 98 years, 6 months, and 5 days young when she passed away Saturday evening, March 20, 2021 at her Morehead home.

She was born in Rowan County, Kentucky on September 15, 1922 to the late George and Sadie Clark Brown.

Geneva was a member of the Johnson First Church of God.  She was a retiree of the Rowan County School system where she worked for over thirty years as a secretary and teacher’s assistant at Tilden Hogge Elementary School.  Her greatest joy was her time spent raising her son and granddaughter.  She was truly the UK men’s basketball team’s biggest fan!  She planted a garden every summer and canned her winter fruits and veggies.  She loved  tending to her flowers and kept her yard immaculate.  DeeDee, as she was affectionately known by her nieces and nephews, was the “fun aunt” who opened her heart and home to her family any time.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister whose presence will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Whittle, son, Tim Whittle, daughter-in-law, Marshia Terry Whittle, brothers, Willie Brown, Ernest Brown, Wilford Ray Brown, Harold Brown and Claude Kennith Brown and sisters, Grace Yoder, Geraldine Crum, Wilma Hadwin, Flora Logan, Juanita Cooper and Madeline Sewell.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Shanna Whittle Helton (Hobert) of Panama City Beach, Florida, step-daughter, Saundra Hagar of Missouri, brother, Fred Brown of Morehead, four great-grandchildren, Autumn Helton, Chase Helton, Cheyenne Helton and Olivia Helton and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Cole Fannin, Prashant Narayanan, Jim Yoder, Randy Brown, Bill Hamilton, and Hoby Helton.

Visitation will be held at Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 24, 2021 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Rev. Ben Furman officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
