Geneva Messer

August 25, 1917 — July 9, 2015

Mrs. Geneva Lillian Mabry Messer, 97 of Haldeman Heights, Morehead quietly departed this life on Thursday, July 9, 2015 surrounded by her caring family.

She was born August 25, 1917 in the Seas Branch Community of Rowan County to the late Calvin and Myrtle Cox Mabry.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Alex Messer on November 30, 1936.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Alex Messer on October 3, 1985, a grandson Mark Allen Messer and two brothers, Willis Mabry and Ray Mabry.

She was lovingly known to many as Jude but mostly Mamaw.

Mrs. Messer was not only a mother to her own children but to every child in the Haldeman Community. Always making  them welcome around the kitchen table to any meal day or night. She was an avid reader and read her bible every day. She was a member of the United Baptist Church at Hayes Branch having joined there on March 8, 1958.

Survivors include three sons Claude (Oveda) Messer, Gary (Joyce) Messer and Roger (Gail) Messer all of Morehead, Kentucky. Two daughters, Genevieve (Zora) Adkins of Morehead and Vonda (Robert) Preston of Olive Hill, Kentucky.   Two sisters, Nelliree (Earl) Oney  of Morehead and Carol (Eddie) White of Morehead. Eight grandchildren,  Jeff (Amanda) Adkins of Morehead, Jamie Adkins of Morehead, Lori (Preston) Martin of Lexington, Leslie (James) Watts of Morehead, Nellie (Tripp) Holbrook of Morehead, Alex (Melinda) Messer of Olive Hill and Brad (Lorena) Messer of Morehead and Neil Messer of Morehead. 21 Great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 12, 2015 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home with Elder Lewie Baier and Elder Robbie Baier officiating.

Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home is after 5:00 P.M. Saturday.

Pall Bearers will be Alex Messer, Brad Messer, Neil Messer, Christopher Adkins, Jeff Adkins, Zachary Messer, Jacob Messer and Khi Adkins. Honorary Bearers will be Drew Holbrook, Allen Holbrook, Clay Holbrook, Brady Messer, Sean Bowman, Ethan Mays, Eddie White, Terry White, Earl Oney, Donnie Oney, Patrick Oney, Billy Hough and Dale Hinton.
