Garry Purnell

July 16, 1946 — December 7, 2014

Garry Denver Purnell, 68 of Highway 504 in Elliott County, passed away Sunday morning, December 7, 2014 at his home after an extended illness.

Garry was born in Carter County on July 16, 1946; he was the son of the late Buford and Clova Reynolds Purnell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Garland Purnell.

He was retired from Mountain Enterprises where he worked in blacktop construction. He was of the Church of God faith and also enjoyed farming, going to the stockyards, horseback riding and spending time with his family, especially his grandson Ethan.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean Scaggs Purnell, whom he married October 26, 1974, his daughter, Annie Michelle (Joseph) Hill and his grandson, Ethan Rylee Hill of Mt. Sterling. Also, Jonothon Harris and Mike Thompson whom he was very fond of and considered them to be his sons. Four brothers: Raymond Purnell of Morehead; Denny Purnell and Ronnie Purnell both of Olive Hill and Curt Purnell of Fleming County. Three sisters: Alice Burlingame of Florida, Debbie Lowe of Olive Hill and Dottie Borman of Missouri. Also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Butch Kelsey and Bro. Buris Leadingham officiating.

Visitation at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is after 5 P.M. Monday.

Burial will follow in the Scaggs Cemetery near his home in Elliott County.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Purnell, Denny Purnell, Ronnie Purnell, Curt Purnell, Bob Purnell, Robbie Purnell, Jonothon Harris and Mike Thompson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Joseph Hill and Ethan Rylee Hill.
