Emma Jean Adkins Barker

Emma Jean Adkins Barker, 88, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 at St. Claire Healthcare in Morehead. 

She was born October 12, 1934 in Haldeman, Kentucky, to the late John R. Adkins and Delphia Lands Adkins.

Jean retired from Morehead State University and had previously been in the restaurant business. She enjoyed cooking and baking pies and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Barker, two sons, John Barker and Tommy Barker; two brothers, John P. Adkins and Donald Adkins; five sisters, Evelyn Adkins Ellis, Ina Clo Templeman, Barbara Collins, Wanda A. Marshall and Margaret Adkins; one great-grandson, Kaleb Davis; one sister-in-law, Darlene Adkins; and one brother-in-law Ray Collins.

Survivors include four sons, Rick Barker (Lucy Brown), Jeff Barker (Luana), and Randy Barker (Connie) all of Morehead, and Rob Barker (Ashley) of Knoxville, Tennessee; two daughters, Debbie Davis (Steve) and Jeanetta Coldiron (Jerry) both of Morehead;  daughter-in-law, Lois Barker of Morehead; one brother, Larry Adkins of Morehead; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Adkins and Mary Lou Adkins both of Morehead; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty- seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 13, 2023 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Rev. Mark Caldwell and Rev. Andy Lands officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Bowen Chapel Cemetery in Carter County.

Visitation is from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the funeral home.

Casket bearers will be Ty Davis, Dustin Barker, Cameron Barker, Josh Barker, Jalen Barker, and Ryan Glover.

Honorary casket bearers will be Jonathan Barker, Dakota Barker, Casey Barker, Connor Barker, Travis Barker, Danny Ellis and J.T. Leadingham.

Contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
