Mr. Elton Lloyd Burnett, 88, of Mercantile Road, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at his home.

He was born on February 22, 1923 in Elkhart, Texas, a son of the late William and Lula Nunn Burnett.

Mr. Burnett was a retired employee of the Rowan County Vocational School and United States Army Air Corps Veteran having served during World War II. He was a member of the Farmers Christian Church and was very active in the Carey Hill Cemetery Association. Mr. Burnett enjoyed raising a garden and caring for his yard

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Elton Lloyd Burnett, Jr., one daughter, Marcia Sue Fouch, five brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Manier Burnett, whom he married on October 25, 1941, one son, John Christopher Burnett of Morehead, two daughters, Tish (Shelby) Lawson of Morehead and Melissa Marie (Brian) Doudna of Milton, West Virginia, ten grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 3, 2011 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Brother Billy Noble officiating.

Burial with full military honors conducted by the Morehead American Legion Post No. 126 will be in the Carey Hill Cemetery at Farmers.

Visitation is from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday.

His family will serve as pallbearers.
