Delbert Kegley

Delbert Claude Kegley, 87 of Morehead, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at his home after an extended illness. He was born in Haldeman, Kentucky on December 12, 1928 to the late William Franklin Kegley and Laura Madden Kegley.

Delbert had owned and operated the Kegley General Store in Haldeman for many years and was also a retired car salesman. He was a graduate of Morehead State University with a B.A. in History. He enjoyed singing, hunting, horseback riding, trading knives, guns and coins. He was a member of the Morehead First Church of the Nazarene where he sang in the choir. Delbert had a passion for history and especially enjoyed all things related to the American Civil War.

He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, James Harold Kegley, two sisters, Ina Clo Arnold and Mary Rose Barlow.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Eileen Fouch Kegley whom he married on July 8, 1949, Two sons, Larry Allen Kegley and his wife Sharon Lynn of Lincoln Park, Michigan and William Franklin Kegley of Morehead, Kentucky. Two daughters, Linda Murray and her husband Bill of Grayson, Kentucky and Delene (Dee) Gilkerson and her husband Randy of Morehead.

Two sisters, Carole Kay Callahan of Longwood, Florida and Donna Lynn Arnold of Lebanon, Tennessee. One brother, David Franklin Kegley of Homosassa Springs, Florida.

Eight grandchildren and Seventeen great-grandchildren. Also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Rev. Myron Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Adams-Plank Cemetery at Cranston.

Full military honors by the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126 will be conducted at the graveside.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday.

Grandsons will serve as Pall Bearers.
