Chilma Jones

April 24, 1927 — August 30, 2015

Mrs. Chilma Butcher Jones, 88, of Morehead, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center.

She was born on April 24, 1927 in Elliottville, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John Morgan Butcher and Nellie Netta Turner Butcher.

Mrs. Jones was a retired schoolteacher having taught for 42 years.  She began her teaching career in 1945, teaching in a one room school at Poplar Grove.  She also taught at Elliottville and Morehead Elementary and in Florida for 2 years.

She was a member of the Elliottville Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.

Chilma enjoyed reading, working in flowers and she enjoyed visiting and helping her friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. K. E. Jones, who passed away on November 22, 2009, three brothers, Carl Butcher, Clyde Butcher and Vincent “Ben” Butcher and six sisters, Elizabeth Butcher, Vera Moore Henderson, Georgia Butcher Conn, Vivian Faye Butcher, Helen Wilhoit Clark and Joan Butcher Baker.

Survivors include one son, Ken Jones of Morehead and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Brown Cemetery with Rev. Curt Lowndes officiating.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home - Morehead is after 9:00 A.M. Wednesday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home - Morehead is caring for all arrangements.
