It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alexis "Lexi" Machelle Leadingham, age 16, who left this world far too soon on October 28, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Children's Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on October 16, 2009, in Morehead, Kentucky, Lexi was a bright soul whose spirit touched many during her short yet impactful life. She was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter and a cherished friend. She was a spirited young lady whose laughter and joy soared in every space she graced.
She was affectionately called "Lovey" by her parents and "Sassy" by her little brother.
As a sophomore at Rowan County Senior High School, Lexi was known for her vibrant personality and warm heart. A true social butterfly, she had an uncanny ability to connect with everyone around her, effortlessly spreading happiness wherever she went. Her beautiful smile was infectious, and she made it her mission to encourage others to find joy in their lives. Lexi's hugs were legendary; they came straight from the heart and were always given freely to anyone who needed one.
With a deep love for music, Lexi cherished the moments spent singing and dancing, creating memories filled with rhythm and cheer. She often encouraged her friends and family to join her in these joyful celebrations of life. Lexi also had a profound love for animals, particularly her devoted dog Sadie, and she took great comfort in her stuffed animal, Sugar Baby, who was a steadfast companion in her adventures.
Lexi enjoyed life to the fullest. Some of her favorite things were pizza, sitting in the rocking chair, The Special Olympics, McDonalds, Stickers, her cousins and riding in the side by side.
Lexi’s faith was a cornerstone of her existence. She found immense joy in attending church, where she praised the Lord with an open heart, often inspiring those around her to do the same. Her passion for life and her belief in spreading kindness resonated deeply with everyone who had the privilege to know her.
She was preceded in death by an uncle, Phillip Leadingham, her great-grandparents, David and very special great-grandma Carolyn Barker.
Survivors include her parents, C. D. and Karri Leadingham, one brother, Jase Leadingham. maternal grandparents, Sam and Billie Jo Lands of Morehead. Randy and Jennifer Leadingham of Salt Lick, Kentucky. Paternal grandparents, Mike and Pam Leadingham of Olive Hill, Kentucky and Gary and Kim Major of Florida. A very special friend since kindergarten Logan Simmons. Also, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
A funeral service celebrating Lexi’s life will take place 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Sharkey Baptist Church with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. and Pastor Elijah Sexton officiating.
Burial will take place in the Family Cemetery on Campbell Branch.
The visitation will be held at the Sharkey Baptist Church on Thursday, October 30, 2025, after 5:00 P.M.
Pall bearers will be C. D. Leadingham, Jason Dummitt, Ty Howard, Jack Lewis, Tom Lewis, Shane Elam, Abram Sexton, and Randy Leadingham. Honorary pall bearers will be Sam "Pappy" Lands, Ben Howard, Phillip Howard, Jordan Lands, Kolton Parkhurst, Jase Leadingham, Brian Barker and Timothy Barker.
Contributions are suggested to The Special Olympics, The Children's Heart Foundation or the Williams Syndrome Changing Lives Foundation.
While Lexi's journey in this world has ended, her radiant spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of all those who loved her. She taught us the beauty of laughter, the comfort of a kind word, and the importance of cherishing every moment. Lexi Machelle Leadingham will be missed beyond measure, but her legacy of love and light will forever remain with us.
