John William "Billy" McClain

John William “Billy” McClain, 88, of U. S. 60 West, Morehead, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.

He was born on November 23, 1928 in Farmers, Kentucky, a son of the late William Thomas McClain and Gladys Calvert McClain.

Billy was retired from Columbia Gulf, he was a farmer and had owned and operated McClain Dairy, Cave Run Marina and the Outpost R.V. Park.

He was a member of the Farmers Christian Church and the oldest member of the Phelps Masonic Lodge.  Billy was an avid UK Basketball Fan, who frequently attended the SEC Tournament with his family and friends.  He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evalena Pennington McClain, who passed away on January 31, 2006, one son, Asa Scott Douglas McClain, who passed away on October 7, 2008 and one sister, Arlene Flannery.

Survivors include one son, Bev (Cheryl) McClain of Lexington, daughter-in-law, Mona Ollis McClain of Morehead, one sister, Joyce McClain of Morehead, one brother-in-law, Willie (Garnetta) Pennington of Morehead, four grandchildren, Ross McClain, Ryan Diaz, Sydney McClain and Michaela McClain, three great-grandchildren, Morgan McClain, Noah Diaz and Griffin Scott McClain, several nieces and nephews and his extended family at the Outpost.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 19, 2017 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Rev. David Starcher and Rev. H. G. Pratt officiating.

Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery.

Visitation is after 12:00 Noon Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ross McClain, Ryan Diaz, Austin “Gabe” Burnett, Scott Flannery, Jeff Flannery, Tyler Wages, Shawn Harris and Zach Harris.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Thompson, Johnny Evans, Ova Arnett, Jerry Flannery, Josh Harris, Steven Smith, Calvin “Cowboy” Fultz and Willie Roberts.

In honor of Billy’s devotion to the University of Kentucky Wildcats and at the request of his family, those attending the funeral are asked to wear blue and white or their favorite University of Kentucky Wildcats attire.
