Dorothy "Dottie" Thomas

July 25, 1927 — July 21, 2017

Mrs. Dorothy Esther Lowe Thomas, 89, of Morehead, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at Windsor Care Center in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

She was born on July 25, 1927 in New London, Connecticut, a daughter of the late William and Esther Clark Lowe.

Dorothy was fondly referred to as Dottie.

She was a devoted wife to James C. Thomas.  They were married in her family home on January 1, 1948.  She raised a family of three sons and one daughter.

Mrs. Thomas had been a sales clerk at S. S. Kresge in Connecticut and Michigan.

Dottie was a member of the Elliottville Baptist Church and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.  She loved to socialize with her friends, while getting her hair styled.

She could be found at her kitchen table playing cards and snacking on her favorite candy. She enjoyed watching the Golden Girls and her favorite soap operas.  She was a great neighbor and friend.

Dottie could make a great bowl of ice cream on a hot day or a smooth cup of hot chocolate when it was cold out.  She loved the time she spent away from home, getting her hair styled and chatting with people in town.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only sister, Marion Thomas (New London, Connecticut) and one son, Gary Thomas Sr. (Morehead).

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, James C. Thomas of Morehead, two sons, Robert (Susie) Thomas of Trenton, Ohio and Steven Thomas of Louisville, one daughter, Karen Thomas of Morehead, daughter-in-law, Connie Stamper Thomas of Morehead and her grandchildren, Jeff Thomas, Gary Thomas Jr., Ron Thomas, Amy Thomas-Zimmerman and Cory Thomas, as well as several great- grandchildren she adored.
